It Might Be the Oldest Building in Hartford; It Might Not be Worth Saving

Tom Condon, editor of the Place sections of the Hartford Courant, asks in his latest Sunday column whether it's worthwhile to save the house at 1805 Broad Street, just south of Trinity College. Unless someone buys the house and moves it, Trinity will raze it in about three months to create parking spaces for its new $8 million community sports complex. Some of the house appears to date from about 1750, "which would make it the oldest building and one of only five 18th-century structures left in the city." But Condon also reports that much of the architecture has been altered over the years, raising questions about its historical value.
